Campaign for Momentous Change ambassador William Kim ’15 (Otonabee College) won an award during the Celebration of Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Research. William took home the Award for Excellence in Teaching Assistance during the May 3 ceremony held in the Student Centre.

“Exceedingly kind, approachable, and perceptive, William Kim ensures that none of his students are left behind,” his nominator wrote.

William enjoys a unique role at the University as an alumnus from the Hon. Bachelor of Science program (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), current Ph.D. candidate in Environmental & Life Sciences, teaching assistant, and campaign ambassador. He started his role as a teaching assistant as a third-year undergraduate student and has continued in graduate studies.

“In these positions, I have enjoyed teaching course content but, more importantly, I have enjoyed interacting with my students at a personal level and learning from them in terms of how to improve my teaching skills,” he said. “As a person who is interested in becoming a professor, having these experiences sets me up for a career in academia.”

William says his Trent experience has also been enhanced by the opportunity to work in cooperation with the Harvard Medical School Department and Massachusetts General Hospital Biology for his research into brain disease.

He joined the Campaign for Momentous Change to continue enhancing the University including providing financial supports for students to achieve their dreams.

“Coming from a financially disadvantaged background, I was able to obtain a fruitful education because of financial support that Trent University provides,” he says. “It’s important to invest in Trent because more support will provide more opportunities. More support will also bring in more technology/infrastructure that will provide better training to students and prepare them to make momentous impacts on the world around them.”
