Trent Farm Leads Way for Momentous Climate-Smart Agriculture
AUGUST 25, 2023
Unique Trent Farm provides solutions for global issues of sustainable agriculture, food security and combatting climate change
The Trent Farm continues to be on the leading edge of climate-smart agriculture as it grows, evolves, and improves.
Since its inception in 2014, the Farm has provided leadership in this area by training future small-scale, sustainable farmers, contributing to local food security, and serving as a model of how agriculture can positively interface with natural features.
“Research at the Trent Farm includes innovative climate-smart approaches aimed to decrease greenhouse gases and maximize efficient use of nutrient and water resources,” said Dr. Karen Thompson, assistant professor with Trent’s School of the Environment and program coordinator of the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems program.
For more than 40 years the Farm has also been a hub for collecting weather data. Thanks to supporters who want to ensure researchers are limitless in their ability to bring about momentous change in this important area of work, the Farm has a newly installed weather-monitoring station that features a full suite of measurements including temperature, precipitation, and solar radiation.
