October 12, 2023
The Campaign for Momentous Change now over halfway to $100M goal to support students, research, colleges, and spaces
With over $50 million raised, the Campaign for Momentous Change has cleared a significant milestone, now halfway to reaching the $100 million goal to support Trent University students, research, colleges, and spaces.
“We are very grateful to the Trent supporters who have helped us reach this momentous milestone,” says Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor, Trent University. “The momentum continues to grow as our staff, faculty, alumni, and community supporters invest in student wellbeing, world-changing research, the University’s iconic spaces, and our unique collegiate system.”
Alumni & Friends gatherings held across the country and in New York City this year have drawn hundreds of alumni and other supporters. More gatherings are planned across North America in 2023-24 including in Halifax (November 9), Florida, and Los Angeles.
Other highlights include:
- $3.5 million gift for community-based research
- $517,500 from the Jeremiah Coughlan Foundation to support Trent University Durham GTA students
- $500,000 from RBC Royal Bank to support experiential learning aligning with the Jarislowsky Chair in Trust and Political Leadership program at Trent
- $250,000 from honorary Campaign champion and chair of Trent’s Philanthropic Advisory Council Bryan Davies to preserve the University’s iconic architecture
- $207,000 from Campaign leader Gavin Marshall ’76 (Lady Eaton College) to support an international nursing student placement
The Campaign, which launched in March 2023, also aims to sign up 500 new monthly donors to provide reliable and stable funding for students. More than 100 new monthly supporters have signed up so far to assist student needs, enable world-changing research, steward Trent’s iconic architecture, and vitalize campuses.
