An estate gift from Eleanor McClelland-Mott ’72 (Catharine Parr Traill College) has enriched Bata Library by providing endowed funds to purchase resources in the field of English literature, especially Canadian and children’s literature.

The Eleanor McClelland-Mott Fund for Bata Library Acquisitions is an endowed fund that allows Bata to acquire print materials such as books, journals, and rare print materials that would not otherwise be funded. On occasion, the Fund is also used to purchase art or artifacts that enhance and enrich the interior library environment.

“The generous donation will greatly enrich the Trent University Library’s annual collections budget, enabling us to purchase vital print resources that support the learning, teaching and research needs of the Trent community,” says Coralee Leroux, Scholarly Resources Librarian at Trent University. “With its specific focus on English Literature, including Canadian and Children's Literature, the fund will ensure that the library's collection in these subject areas remains comprehensive and inclusive, offering students and scholars access to diverse perspectives and literary traditions. We are deeply grateful for this contribution, which not only supports our immediate needs but also ensures a high-quality library collection for future generations of learners at Trent University.”

After graduating from Trent University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, Ms. McClelland-Mott went on to a 38-year teaching career, more than a decade in Bermuda. After retiring, she continued her affiliation with Trent as a member of the Friends of the Bata Library, an association dedicated to cultivating interest in all aspects of the Bata Library and its resources.

Ms. McClelland-Mott was committed to life-long learning and believed strongly in providing resources to the Bata Library that will benefit many people across the Trent community.
